Outlook of today’s business

Organizations today are so caught up with returns without investment, they are so possessed with the misconstrued idea of holding onto lose ends of strings from the customers and believing that would be sufficient to beat the competition, while the competitors have secured their customer base with electric fencing so secure and have installed the confidence by demonstrating their competence, passion, and the sense of making the customers feel they are getting what they think they want and not what we think they want not just the business aspects, I am by no meanse suggesting that consulting/ suggesting a better idea is a bad thing that is why companies hire consultants to give the best solution for the existant problem. It’s ok to build castles in the air but trying to live in them; or imagine building an apartment first looking for the tenants and then laying the
foundation. That isn’t going to work.
if I have to give a similar example it’s more like a captain of a ship trying to win a race of sailing the seven seas on a non existant boatthe while other competitors are on a motor boat.
The gyan given by the so called business gurus such as early movers in the market has the advantage of 0 competition. Or trying to build some sort of a competent team even before the business is got, demonstrate the examples and convincing the prospective client that we do have the quality resources and a dedicated team competent doyen is thrown out of window as if to suggest there is no place for marketing laws in today’s ruthless cut throat business policies. Everyone wants to grab the biggest share of pie without realizing if we actually have the potential capacity to deliver the over
aggressively accepted tasks and its deadline…

In a nutshell, have the team of specialist, realize what is feasible and realistic having at least one SME from the respective technology area or equipping the presales team with sufficient knowledge in order to have the analysis of the feasibility assessment before commiting anything to the customers who are prospective clients.

Trip to netra vidyalaya

It was Wednesday, a relatively warm day at that. Rajesh, his colleague and I started towards Netravidyalaya. I was briefed on the background of this school. I was a hodgepodge of emotions; it seemed like someone unleashed a major tsunami of catastrophic proportions. I didn’t know what to expect- I always have this initial jitters when I face a new audience whether it is for a group discussion, a presentation, or even a fun event. I am like that steam locomotive which takes time to get going…
When we reached the place, we were greeted and served prasadam, post which we were given a tour of the ashram, the dwelling place for the students, the braille book production unit and finally the class rooms. They introduced us to the students, there was an invocation song , followed by welcome speech, and the mike was thrust in our hands to take it further…
Initially, I was feeling awkward by the lack of response. I reached out to Rajesh sir for support; who was as cool as a cucumber, as solid as a rock, took the mike with a swift scoop and turbocharged the audience with an icebreaker; He strategized to interview me in front of the students to spark inspiration in them to take it further, I was relieved as he set the stage by firing a few questions; regarding the challenges I faced as a kid due to the onset of my visual condition, how I made the transition, how eazy/ challenging it was to break the confinements of fear and self doubt and eventually reach the position I am in…
The questions then started poring in, Rajesh sir, fired them to have dreams beyond their assumed possibilities- he tried to drill in the thought “ if one keeps doing what one has been doing, one keeps getting what one has been getting, in order to go beyond and get something that we haven’t got so far we must prepare to do something extra that we haven’t done so far”. Through a small activity I tried to make them understand unless they push themselves they will not realize their full potential; second, the motivation needs to come from within; One can only do something if one desires to, not because something has been forced upon them.
I saw my past self in them someone whom I had last seen about ten years ago,, confused looks, feeling of lost ship, no clue of what is available, uncertainty of future, job uncertainty, unwilling to be adventurous, self doubt due to certain limitations; satisfied in the safety of comfort zone amidst friends. Placing too much of faith who accentuates our safety zone, in Kerala the trainer ties a rope to the calf(Elephant’s) tie it to a pole- after trying with all its might for many days and perhaps months it gets conditioned to believe it is not strong to break free from the confinds its trainer has enforced on it- Like wise these students may have been conditioned by their friends, parents, or even their own experiences and make believe they aren’t capable beyond what they are currently able to… End of the rendezvous, I felt I managed to push a few of them to implement the lessons I learnt of persevering to overcome obstacles and challenges that life throws at us.
We met swamiji, it was a completely different experience interacting with him… I just can’t seem to put the experience in words, one has to experience the experience to know what it is…
After reaching office the next day, I shared this experience with some of my closest pals at work, they were interested to come along and contribute in these kids learning to be self dependent; Rajesh has ignited these kids to take baby steps towards a better future, an I have joined hands along to give them the additional thrust to ensure they do not lose the momentum they have gained from their success, from the push by their teachers, and by other friends who visit them to further polish their skills and provide them the map to reach their destination- which is ofcourse to be employed and be independent

Employee – hard workers or apple-polishers?

I have been at work for around ten years now, which I believe is a reasonable period for anybody to learn the veracities of today’s fiddly working domain. I got a close look I mean a real close look on the types of people that subsists in this ecology. One is the hard worker and the other is the apple-polisher.

You will find a few who always agrees with immediate supervisor’s ideas; praises immediate supervisor on their accomplishments; agrees with supervisor’s major opinions outwardly even when they disagree inwardly, is always smiling to everyone, and I mean ALWAYS smiling, you may even think that the guy never has a hectic weak, Acts like the boss’s “friend”, the secret keeper, the one who cares
Most about the workplace, Sounds familiar doesn’t it? No rewards for guessing, everyone would have encountered such apple-polishers in their life.

On the other hand The hard worker, Is only there to work, always on time and willing to stay late, not because of his poor social life, because of inability of having any fun till tasks get done; tells on your face that “you are wrong” not because they are rude, but to give you the other side of it; will give you a huge cheer because you deserve it and not desire it, He will kick your bottom if you mess with his effort or interrupt his work;

To conclude, I say the apple-polishers are like the wild feline who can bite you to keep its hunger at bay whilst the hard workers are like the cute stray dog that gards your home even though you haven’t broght them up.

Song of soul

What hath one to offer, copious Judgements?
who has the right except ones creator…

Ego, the killer that resides in most of the hominoids.
consumed by this poison, obfuscates love…

what cure is to be given for such possessed souls;
don’t they know, what goes around comes around…

witness life thoroughly, certain points make you cry…

Parsimoniously appreciated

When was the last time you gave yourself a pat? I realized just a little while ago while reflecting; Most of us are caught in a race to excel. It is great to aim high, No doubt, but why do we expect others to endorse our achievements.
Why don’t we step back and count our achievements, celebrate our accomplishments. Let us for once ignore our age, status in society, designation, role, blah blah… and celebrate with the fervor of a child visiting the amusement park for the first time. Try it once and you will know what I mean. Only experiencing the experience will give you a true glimpse of what I experienced…

The unforeseen detention

The flight was to take off at 3 pm on a tweeting Tuesday afternoon from Rajeev Gandhi international airport at Shamshabad. at about 12 noon, I received a message that read “. Flight t2### has been rescheduled”I was crestfallen to learn the delay of the flight; it was rescheduled to take off at 17:45.
Oh! No, don’t you think that was the end; it was just the beginning of what was to transpire…

When we arrived at the airport at 4:30 and learnt the flight was rescheduled to 18:30… I was a bit delirious; now as I pen down the experience it is comical; back to the spot can it get any worse??? You say yes? No? May be… Can’t say eh!!!
The clock struck 18:25 yet there was no announcement of our flight… I looked at my bro and he did the exact same thing; we exchanged apprehensive looks; time 18:45 and the speaker boomed t2###-couldn’t believe our ears it was indeed our flight, finally, after waiting in the lobby warming the chairs we were called to board the flight…
Could the day get any worse??? Read on folks! Don’t worry curiosity only killed the cat…
This was his first flight, He got an opulent welcome filled with thunders and lightning; roaring and flashing they were to celebrate his maiden flight…

We got into the flight, heaved a sigh of relief; alas! The pilot had other ideas, we found the plane taxiing couple of rounds of the airport and without announcement we were taken off the runway and back to the start (parking?)…

We were confused, the entire crew had no clue, the weather wasn’t helping either; it was 42 degrees outside, inside only the AccuWeather knew. The AC bunged, passengers got angry there was spitfire and dragon rage on display; we heard angry avowal such as “Is this a second class train?”, “this is absolutely horrendous”, “Are you intending to smother us to death with heat and confinement?”, “First the delay, then this torture chamber treatment
”, “Why were we got to the plane if it weren’t taking off?” while this argument was stirring up the lights went off, so sitting in darkness we were with sweat beads pouring out through the miniscule multitude orifices…
Time 19:50- Captain announces we got the clearance and the flight is ready for takeoff; feuw!!! That was great news as the entire plane was beginning to smell like a gym socks. I was glad as I could get in time to Bangalore to catch the onward flight…

Although an impediment, the hold-up, in the end everything fit in like the piece of a jigsaw puzzle… All is well that ends well
